For people I know who are open with their partners about their relationships with their pet they have started conversations into it with statements like... I think the best method is to furst find out how he feels about the subject in general. The best way, as has already been profered, is to try bringing it up in casual questioning conversation. Depending on whether his reaction to the idea of beastie is positive or negative, you'll know whether your own activities are something you can broach with him or not.
