I'm getting a male puppy soon and am expecting an onslought of questions from people wondering if and when I am going to neuter him. I don't want to neuter him and I don't plan to. But are there are any good, compelling reasons not to neuter your pet? The people at the animal shelters have a long list of reasons TO neuter him, I just want one or two reasons NOT TO...Thanks in advance for your help guys, and sorry if this post isn't in the right place.
If anyone asking you happens to be a guy, ask him how he'd like his balls cut

1. you want the option of using him as a stud for mating someday.2. you think it is cruel or just dont want to make up your mind right now.3. you plan on keeping him as a house pet and see no good reason to multilate him.4. your afraid it will somehow affect his health or growth.5. ask them if they are neuteredHey its your dog you do not have to be politically correct.
just tell them you don't believe in it and let it go at that. You have the same right to believe it shouldn't be done as someone else who believes it should.
I do not approve of this at all. Sence should tell you that if you tell people what was suggested on this thread you will only have more problems. i assure you i would give you problems and have the dog removed from you. There are alot of benifiets from neutring but it would be lost to tell you. sence you got the puppy from a shelter, and i don't want you to have puppies, this answer will help. You should ask the vet for visectomy. this will steralize the dog and still have testicals. if asked say it is asthetic and the dog is still sterile.I only help because you got the dog from a shelter.
For me it's pretty easy. The youngest is a "Show girl" - I can't enter her in conformation shows unless she's entire. That's one of the reasons I started by getting a "Show girl" - now I've found out I like it (though it can be hard to look up when there's a nice bitch directly in front )For the sibe (3 year old adoptee) I've got a couple of reasons to hand.1. I already have to have everything in place to keep an in season bitch secure, so there's no extra hassle looking after two.2. Most of the "must neuter" reasons centre on not adding to the unwanted dog problem, not what is best for the individual animal. As I keep my girls secure, I don't think the other reasons have me convinced yet.3. I may be a paranoid conspiracy theorist, but I'd like to see some figures on complications with spay/neuter surgeries first. Everything I've seen just says they're "low incidence" but without actual numbers, how do I weigh it up against the risks of not doing it. Most of the professional comments seem to be from those with a vested interest in making everyone spay/neuter their pets. (try and find a study not sponsored by a major pet body or vet assoc )

As an individual, i work with animals and i have seen alot of bad stuff happen to pets. And it may or may not happen, but it only has to happen once, then it;s too late. It is your choice, wrong or right.
I've never been asked whether or not my dog was fixed. Why would anybody else really care? If they do ask, just tell them u chose not to.
I have a really good reason I said not toBut how leasons to me.Just playing everone does.
it's my guess that we are going to find this subject quite divided -and that's fine -and everyone is more than welcome to express thier views - let's just be sure to not flame anyone for thier opinions - thanX

I don't neuter my male because:1: He's my stud dog2: I'm hoping to Champion him out in Conformation(the dog has to be intact)3: He's mine and I don't feel like cutting his balls off4: I don't think he would appreciate me having his balls cut off5: I am responsible enough to keep him away from other dogs in heat, so there is no reason to neuter him6: There is a chance he can die on the operating table, no matter how slim7: Because I said so
I don't personally own a dog (though I'm currently living with my sister and she owns a big boxer)... but my family has always had cats. One thing I've noticed when we've had to neuter the males when we keep them is they turn out really girly and some times aggressive after it's done (proberly mad at my parents for having their balls cut off... why they took it out on me I dunno )Anyway, my point is that I agree with Kitsui, get them sterilised and not neutered as the testis (balls for those who don't know) do have more functions that spunk creation... namely testosterone and other hormones
Try this: "Neutering is so *last millenium*. My pup is already permanently sterile thanks to Neutersol."If they question you further you can just quote the site's answers to such questions. They may then try the "it has no effect on behaviour" angle:QUOTE The FDA has stated that as with surgical castration, secondary male characteristics such as roaming, marking, aggression, and mounting may be displayed in animals who have received Neutersol injections.Which of course is easy to counter by discussion of proper training of manners and instilling some self-control like all responsible owners should, throwing the "responsibility" line back at them.I guess they could ask to see the certificate of this being done, but if it's a guy asking, you can just go enthusiastically into the details of the procedure and they'll probably be too busy wincing at "a 28 gauge needle is inserted into each testicle...." to insist
In my case, I had one male dog, he was a good lad and mounted when he felt like it, we got a bitch and on the breeders advice got him done. Within weeks he went from a playful 6 year old with the attitude of a 2yr to an old boy of 10years. When people ask me about my new lad, he's 3 now I mention the above and tell them that I intend my dogs to pass their time as nature intended and that I won't harm my dogs for my convienience. It just means I have to separate them once every 6 months or so.

I have tried to get some and it is no longer produced. It was not well recived and used. so it apparently was not worth making anymore, otherwise i would have offered that solution, and any shelter, no man with education would wence. the procedure is simple but must be done in dogs under 8 mos old.I do not like breeders. I do not care if you remove the testicles because i am used to dealing with that sort of people, all i really ask is you at least visectamy to prevent puppies. you can later deal with the health issues, it's just job security for me.
I have a male who had a vascetomy 2 years ago. I have females and didnt want to risk having puppies. hes older so was not acting like super stud to begin with but was certianly still fertile. His behavior is still the same as before the operation so he has to be handled like an intact male. If you chose to have an intact dog (as most of us here seem to do) you should realise that there is a greater level of responsibility required. Not only to prevent unwanted pups but to moniter and maintain your pets health. You should try and learn what the extra health risks are for intact animals and what the symptoms are.For example checking older males on a regluar basis for any changes or lumps in his testicles. A good vet text ,online or talking to your vet about what to watch for will help to educate you in this area. Usually more secure confinement is also needed to prevent escapes or intrusions . You could be resonpnsible for vet expences should your male get out and cause another persons dog to get pregnet or start fights that cause injury....animal or human. If you are prepared to take on the extra time ,effort and expense then owning an intact animal doesnt need to turn into a problem.
When I get asked such a question, I simply give them are-you-crazy?-stare and reply: "No, of course not. Why do you ask?" This makes most people even apologize for asking. If they inquire further, I tell them: "The vet told me that my dog could die during the surgery." This always ends the discussion.

Just have a vasectomy done on him. That's what I had done to my dog. His balls are still there, and he is just like he was before--only he is not able to impregnate a female. Some shelters require your dog to be neutered upon adoption. Just request a vasectomy instead. The recovery time is a lot quicker and it is safer. The best part is, you can still have sex with your dog! The intact dogs that I have known were gentle as flowers and did not act like the stereotypical meanies that they are popularly known as.
under protest with my mate my g s d was spayed
give them no reason other than it makes em fat and lazy. and every one will let it be. but thats only if the question ever comes up. the only people who have ever ask me in the past are the vet and my sis cause she dosent like seeing the "dangly bits"
"dangly bits" lol .In all honasty either my dog was gay or had Problems since the poor boy never seemed intrested in any kind of sex.Thats the first thing second steralisation is only necesary if your planning on letting your dog get lost. I had a dog for 12 years not once was he on the road alone for more than ten minets gave us such a scare too.In my case i could tell them that.
The simplest answer to the onslaught of questions from others:IT IS NONE OF THEIR DAMNED BUSINESS WHETHER OR NOT YOU NEUTER YOUR PET.If they want you to neuter your pet so badly, make THEM pay for it. I'll bet they back off.Or ask them...."how would you like to have your balls cut off or your uterus and ovaries taken out just for the hell of it?"
as some person said, just say you didnt want to.after all, they are born that way, why change that? if thats the way they are meant to be. my 2 cents
There are many reasons healthwise to neuter and also to leave a pet intact. The most important reason to leave a large breed dog intact is due to the need for the hormones and testosterone to circulate during growth periods. A giant breed or large breed dogs growth plates do not close until they are upwards of 17 months, especially the giant breeds. Without the proper chemical balance circualting through thier bloodstream, a dog's growth plate may close prematurly, resulting in several major health problems, primarily pattella luxation, which is the knee joint not seeding properly in it's socket. This can also occur in the arm or forepaw joints. This is just one example of the need to not neuter until the dog is completely finished growing. There are other more subtle reason that we in this community may think of also:)
To me, there are only 1 reasons WHY you shoud neuter a dog..1) the animal is too aggressive or boistrous to handleapart from that... i would not neuter him...I keep alot of small animals and the only reason why i have neutered them is...1) My rabbit is a male one... and you can only have female companions that get along with them... and i didnt want baby rabbits... 2) my ferrets... i found that full males didnt get on with each other, and i only keep males... so all them are neutered..3) i had a rat that was really aggressive to his cage mate... he is neutered and now alot carmer..But i find if there is nothing wrong with the animal...or a specific reason WHY you should neuter them... then don't!!I know i wont neuter my dog when i get one unless for extreme reasons...

I tell them that the last dog I had fixed, and the ones my family had, and friends have, them all gained weight after they were fixed, ever most of the females.
In a vasectomy the tubes that connects the testes to the prostate are severed and closed with plastic clips, at least for humans. This means since seamen is produced in the prostate mainly the dog will still ejaculate and since his testes are still connected to his blood stream he'll be as male as ever. Thats why when you and your permanent partner decide its time to close the factory for good the doctor suggest this procedure instead of the not so politically correct castration.
"I can't afford it.""How would you like it if your balls were chopped off?""I don't believe in it.""I plan to....." Better used for people you don't know and won't see again."My last dog died on the table." Even if you didn't have a dog before."I don't think it matters. He's more of a house dog.""I don't know........." Most will leave it at that."Because I like looking at his balls." As a joke. "He's going to be bred later." For a full breed dog."I want more dogs later." Whether true or not.
Many will tell you that neutering will promote better health in a dog. However, I know many that have lost dogs due to anesthesia. There is always a risk putting any dog under. Tell them you do not want to risk losing your dog to anesthesia and unless they would be willing to guarantee 100% that nothing will or can go wrong during surgery, you don't want to do that right now. No one can give you a guarantee like that because even the vet will have you sign a waiver saying that death can be a side effect to anesthesia. That is one hell of a side effect if you ask me and one good reason not to neuter.

There seems to be some evidence that neutering can cause health/cancer problems later in life. At least one vet here in town is not pushing for the usual neutering route, going against the politically correct view.
Getting the dog neutered, as much as it pains me to think about it, is definitely the responsible thing to do. If he gets loose he can't knock up any females, thus reducing the number of strays and many less crossbred mutts. From a zoo stand point, I don't think he'd be able to cum as much as if he went unfixed. Plus, that's one less thing to suck on
So if we're obliged to keep our pets from reproducing for whatever reasons, how come there's no obligation to do the same with some humans?
WelllllllllllGood note South2 posts raised my hackles big time.1. Who the heck and why care if 10 people want to neuter your dog. He is Your DogYou keep him safe and well trained so why is it the least of anyones business if your pup has balls or not.2. If my dog gets loose he will not leave my property as that is his terratory and it is an axcident.I own 2 studs a par of intact dogs and in 30+ years have only temporally hade one stud go back to his barn himself I fell off. As long as I can defend my animals my advise is leave your morals and thoughts to your self,On FOX news O'Reily A man [does not live in NY] who took his mastif to his job sites parked his truck to get fuel and a drink. He put his dog in the bed of the truck on a tie chain for a minuit. Some a@#h&^% cut the chain and tried to steel the dog. Police were called the shurch was on. The dog was found loose the kind animal controle people who we know love and care for animals in NY darted the dog 5 that is FIVE times. Locked the dog up. The man came to clame the dog they being the kind carring people they are would not return the dog till his balls were cut off.Reason he got loose. [He got bolt cutters to cut his chain][see police report]In 2 thats TWO weeks in the nice carring shelter [the first time the dog and owner were seperated] He nearly died from resportary destress sevear kenell cough. The man had to go to court to get his pet back. The judge ruled in the owners favor saying there is no justifcation to warrent the forced castration..The kind carring state shelter because it is a state run carring organisation found a loophole in the fact that the state is some what above the law and forced the dog back to court. He is now out on $10,000 dollars bond in his owners custody till fall when he is back in court. This could happen to any of us people. You rely think the shelter people are our friends??They have an agenda like so many other groops have. They have shuch an ego they can force there thinking on any person any time. You do not care enough about your pet to spend the time to keep it safeNeuter it.I spend that time every dayYou want to insult me tell me to castrate my boys..We will here in the fall if this mastif gets butchered because some carring shelter thinks they are better than his carring owner..This man may be on of us.RusPsLook if we take responcibality for our companions and our actions there would be no need for groops to force there responcibilitys on us.

ok so i only read a few replies))but saw alot of good reason not to spay or nuter a dogand as long as YOU are responceable to keep them frommating w/o piror plannig its your choiceheres my best reason, after its my choice, i dont let if happen by accidenti want to show etcitsi WILL NEVER cut any animal before its a fully grown adultand my reason has to do wiht their healthi use to raise/breed dalmatianswhich ar eprone to forming stones/cystals in their urine, if fed a improper dietor even from genticsso i want their plumbing to be FULL sized to if they do form them their easier to the aniomal to passits a choice would you rather pass a frozen pea thur a stir straw 1/16 in opening or lessor pass it thur a milkshake sized straw 1/4 tp 3/8 ins????plus in old age cut fem do have a higher chance of leaking bladderso add this to the rest of the list of good reasons not to cut a fur friend
Pets are supposed to be your best friends.Would you cut off your best friend's balls?
the vet ask me when i took my puppy for its first shots when he could schedule to get her fixed i told him never i dont butcher my dogs .he then went on to tell me they live longer .i told him to save the speach for some one who believes that crap .if it was to save her life then yes but till that day she will be the way she was created i got a female because i wanted a female .
So what's the big deal? it's a no brainer. Get him a vasectomy, it's the perfect solution, no unwanted puppies and he gets to keep his jewels.I wish I had known they did that before I had my male neutered.
Well for the vast majority of dog owners, there's no reason what ever, not to have a male dog neutered. I also don't know how or why other people would even know if your dog was neutered or not.
well our dogs arnt fixed so we pretty much say they are ok the way they are so theres no need yet to fix them
So a perfect stranger walks up to you and says you have a nice gelding. My boys were boarded for a wile for barn rebuilding..I thank them but thinking it was a complement mention he is a stud. There answer is he should be gelded. The horse just nudged them with his noze. They start a tiraid on I should not own a stallion only big stables should own stallions.I list some of his championships and they tell me he is not shown now cut him.You tell me why this person has the right to say anything about my horseWhy they think god made them special to descideAnd why it is there business.Because a neighbor tells me to neuter my dog I should run out and do it.Since when does the neighbor have any control of my MY animal in the first place. The fact my dog may get loose does not make my dog abandoned.Hello he is my property. My horse is valued at over a sports car. He is my property I insure him and care for him. Who the heck elivated my neighbor to the point my horse has to be responcible to him..People spend far to much time telling other people how to run there lives. This realy ticks me offMany years ago I had to sell a wonderfull stud because the only stable where he would have the safe proper stall / fencing and [the horses that were there he would get aloung with] I could not get a boarding permit from the town.Reason the holyer than though descided to not permit stallions except on there owners property..Wake up people This is not because I am ticked [i am but] The California bill should be a wake up call BIG TIME.You can put your head in the sand but your balls are up and your neighbor will have them cut off.Animals have axcidents they are animals. They have balls and penises and take leaks on the ground. This offends people because they do not want to see it.Simple DO NOT LOOK.Some day you may win. To register my dog I payed tripple because he had his nuts.To carry my gun I pay over $200 a year in permit fees /record checks. Both are designed to make my life misurable [not to mention my dog] [who lives in the woods miles from town]The gun permits would evaporate instantly if they thought there was a problem. Every police data base would have my name in red print. A quick look at a computer screen instantly will tell if I am noughty or nice..The $200 / month weight has nothing to do with public safty everything to do with people whos ego makes messing with other people there first priority. You want to stop the surplus pet population stop it where it counts spay /neuter the pet owners.People need to rethink how they treat others. My neighbor is no better than me. He has no right on my property unless asked. He has less right in my care for my animals as long as they are cared for and are comfortable. There is so much good people can do for strays etc. Leave responcible people to choose for them selves.Rus
I've seen a few comments and also the arguement in other places that if the dog got out it would be able to breed. If you are getting a dog, I would assume that you would be responsible enough to keep him or her from getting out, so I believe that arguement to be null in most cases and shouldn't even apply unless the person is talking about letting their dog walk around the place.I see no reason not to as long as you are fufilling your duty as a pet owner in ensuring the dogs welfare and also making sure that he will not be able to get out.
QUOTE (Ravana @ Jul 25 2007, 12:35 AM) Pets are supposed to be your best friends.Would you cut off your best friend's balls? Well, considering my best friend and I play jokes on each other all the time, I still owe him one!! At my bachelor party many years ago, him a a few friends got me drunk and we went to Las Vegas where they took all my money and dropped me off just outside of Vegas so I didn't know where I was!! I was just a tad bit late to the wedding! (Only after Roxanne wired money to me and I had trouble receiving it without ID!!)Over the years, we played many jokes on each other, but I never found one to equal the Vegas drop off. Getting him drunk and having him neutered (by a vet of course) would just about make us even!! As for having my animal best friend neutered... NEVER! He didn't do anything to me.
Why not neuter... I have had all but two of my dogs spayed or neutered... the last two are show dogs that is why they are not fixed.Spay/Neuter isn't all that bad, and it's one subject that many people tend to anthromorphise about.Neuticals anyone?
Everybody is making this more difficult than it needs to be.If the vet asks, just say yes, but I have to save the money first. Believe me, the vet will drop it.If you get your pet from a shelter, you are screwed since they can often force you to neuter your pet, or will take it away from you). If friends or family ask, who cares? Doesn't matter what you say. They shouldn't have much interest your pets reproductive parts anyway.BTW, Vasectomy, on a dog? Good luck convincing your vet to perform that procedure. In my opinion, anyway. It's far easier to neuter, since few vets have performed a vasectomy, and most vets do neuters every week and can do it with their eyes closed. I'm just saying, I don't think you're going to have much luck, and it sure sounds suspicious. You WILL be questioned if you ask for this.

My previous dog was just that....very lazy and very fat. No matter what I fed him or how I tried to get him roused for exercise the dog was just lazy. I loved him anyway and very much so, but I knew that his being fat and lazy were a direct result of his castration (no sense in candy coating it. Thats the word....castrated). My GSD I have now is NOT fixed, he's trim, he's energetic and he's an absolute delight to be around! His health is astounding. He can jump six feet straight up from a standing position to get into the large truck I sometimes rent for work and he gets to go for a ride. He's eight years old and shows no sign of slowing down at all. All of this is the reason I will never cut again. I'm always astounded at the amount of people who ask _very accusingly_ why he hasn't been "neutered". I think maybe Bob Barker did his job maybe a little too well. People seem to think a male dog with the "dangly bits" still attached is some sort of freak.....unnatural even. "Makes em fat and lazy" as a response seems to work every time so I'd just stick with that and move on.
easy 1. would you want your manhood disabled? 2. If it aint broke dont fix it 3. You want your dog to be happy 4. Its his decision!
Just lost my postprobably a good thing..Hopefully it will stay lost The short version.Castration is an exceptable thing. If you want to have at it your choice.I have helped cut many a horse and they were the better or as well for it.The parties agreed and in some cases we would have refused sale if not. That saidMy animals are mine.Till you can tell me why and how you will care for my property better than me keep your opinions to your self.People love to control others its a control thing they cant resist. One breeder changed one breed of horse for ever a wile ago.His right? He has all the money he bought it he does what he wants. But watch your back If we do not protect our right to choose we will loose it.Remember california for what they tried to do because they will try again in a state near you..Now I am going to scratch some real balls on real horses.Rus
QUOTE (rus80 @ Jul 26 2007, 12:25 AM) But watch your back If we do not protect our right to choose we will loose it. Remember california for what they tried to do because they will try again in a state near you.. I highly doubt there was any sinister intent behind the state's actions. They were simply trying to combat the rampant problem of having to destroy hundreds of thousands of unwanted dogs and cats every year. I'm sure they didn't have zoo's on their mind when they drafted the legislation.
haha, i was straying away from the S&N topic... again. but it just keeps popping up The thing to remember is there is no 1 clear cut answer... what is best for some or most, is not for all. HOWEVER, people should be given unbiased information when making the decision. The problem is there is such a strong pull to prevent more overpopulation any negative to S&N for the dog itself is lost in the push to prevent more unwanted animals. Technically, a well intended goal, but the problem is more then just to many unfixed pets, it is to many irresponsible owners. The problem with not telling the public of any negatives then no one questions it and then those people end up pushing it on others, whether it is from people constantly asking if you are going to S&N or laws forcing you to... they see any owner that isn't a breeder with an unfixed pet as an irresponsible owner... I mean come on, it has no negatives, just positives and prevents overpopulation, who in their right mind wouldn't do it?Except that there are negatives, and some feel it isn't justified if they can keep their pets under control... even if they have an accident... the problem isn't with the responsible person who has an accident once, it is the people who have repeated mistakes and still dont watch or alter their pet, aren't educated in general dog sexual behaviour, unable to afford S&N and dont look for alternatives, dump their pet off somewhere when they dont want them (which causes plenty of unwanted breeding), fail to grasp a pet is for LIFE and not just until the cuteness wears off, you get tired of it, or becomes burdensome.Remember, the owner should be fully informed about how their pet will be effected... not just fed biased information, and for many or even most people they should probably do it, but it is their decision.Check out here, for more info and studies, http://saveourdogs.net/health.html
Now we are getting to a good point..We have a population problem in shelters I understand all that.I also understand the thinking We as voters [riotous mob they can be] do not like it so cut of there balls.I actually agreeButKeep it to the shelters. My animals are not un loved nor ever un wanted.Leave my animals alown. The price of not keeping a lid on who gets there selves wacked is loosing.Look at the guy on fox newsHis dog is out on $10,000 bond, court date in the fall and his dog may still loose his nuts. This could happen to any of us who travle through NY.This is wrongYou let the state cut of one ball they will want all the balls. The shelter wants to neuter a dog before releasing it your choice.Watch your back people your dogs balls depend on it..The law always works in strange waysRus

In the city I live in, Saint Paul, Minnesota, dog and cat owners are REQUIRED to have thier pets neutered/spayed when they adopt from ANY animal shelter, the same goes for Minneapolis. Almost every apartment complex, large or small, private or corporate, does not allow large or giant breed dogs on the premesis, as this violates their rental agreements. The place I live in now, I'm allowed to have cats. I have a six year old cat, neutered. He was already neutered when I adopted him in 2003, at age two. As a cat owner since 1987, and growing up around cats since I was an infant, to me, the only reason for neutering a male cat is to eradicate the "spraying" behaviour, which, as any cat owner will tell you, smells so VERY bad and is hard to remove completely. The apartment I live in, according to the lease agreement, I would have my security deposit ($480.00 USD) forfeited if brought another animal into my apartment, even if it was a friend bringing their dog over, just to VISIT ME. AND, I would have to come up with ANOTHER $480.00 (USD) within 48 hours to replace what I forfeited, or I would be in breach of my lease agreement, and would be evicted. So, according to those terms, were I to find a stray animal, I couldn't do anything about it, not even to take it in and call around to find it's owner, even if the animal was in my apartment for merely 5 minutes. I'd have to leave it there, possibly to be hurt or killed. Even if one isn't a zoo, someone who loves animals would be torn with an arrangement like what happens where I live. The only way I could see getting around having a dog neutered or spayed in the cities of Saint Paul or Minneapolis that I wanted to adopt from a shelter, would be to purchase a breeder's license. That's the ONLY way I can see getting around the required "fixing" when adopting from an animal shelter. As far as I know, there are thousands of shelter animals in St. Paul & Minneapolis, and they all deserve to be adopted by caring humans, whether Zoo or just an animal lover. But, the only other option to buying a breeder's license, is to adopt from a private party. This "dog" has always wanted to own a dog, but, due to other people's neglect of their companions, he (as well as all of you who cherish thier companions) have to suffer. Iono..just a few thoughts to ponder, I guess :sigh:
QUOTE (cellar door @ Dec 13 2005, 03:53 PM) If anyone asking you happens to be a guy, ask him how he'd like his balls cut That commet hits it right on the nail! Also if it's a woman, ask her how she think it'd feel to have ovaries removed. I think it's inhumane, I tell people that the most nerve endings are right there, and it is unfair and brutal to do practice such operations. The females are always more agressive so using the "well it wIll make him less agressive" excuse is just that, an excuse. If you can't control your dog's lust, then you shouldn't have a dog. I guess there is always the possibility of a fence hoping female, but there is always an alternative to ruining a dog's family marbles.
1. Lay down right here and let me cut your balls off. No? I thought so.2. I may want a puppy or two some time.3. Just don't feel like it.

Look castration is not the worst thing to happen to an animal..I have prosided over many a horse gelding. There is little pain involved after the opperation and since most were done with the horse under heavy but standing sedation with the testiucles nerves blocked the horse is realy not very upset at all.The most pain is setting the nerve blocks. If you do not hit them in the right place and order the horse will hit you. He is not stuped it hurts to have a neadle pushed into your testicle. The critter walks off and resumes eating grass..Cared for properly the swelling is no problem as well. There are a hundred reasons to geld very few to keep a stud.It is a shame shelters are in crices. The humans put them there and are a major issue. If I go to a shelter I relise what is going to happen and when I pick up the dog that is that.On the other hand if I buy a papered animal of good quality and it is fully assembled the property is mine. As long as I provide adiquite care and a fenced yard the animal is my business. The animal slips the fence the fence gets repaired. Animals are animals they do un expected things. No matter what the animal is my business.People have a nasty way of getting there way controling others because the control makes sence. We buy a drivers licence for reasonable money to cover the costs of that system which assures we can control the car and stop at stop signs. No problemI hold firearms licences to carry, same thing. Right makes senceButA state who does not want me to carry there has by constitution no choice but to make the licencing available. Fine I have one licence in force a simple recordscheck will show my life to the issuing athority. Take a nother picture pay the fee good to carry for one year unless I loose my 4 year home state licence that cost me $50 dollars. That out of state licence costs now $150 a year no renewals. Not fine the state does not want me, they try to price me out or stop carring. This is wrong...Years ago I had to sell a wonderfull stud because the stables where he would be safe were not alawed to have stallions in the town that were not there own. Town ordance. Not fineMy dog lived on the edge of town on very large tract of land. He never had a licence never came up till he needed quills removed on a sunday night. The vet not any of our regular ones knew he had balls and turned him in to the town. They had to inquire and I said I would get him his tag. That tag cost 4 times the neutered tag fee and I was admonished to get it done to save money.Do I sound happy.People will get your dogs balls from behind if you do not watch..Shelter dogs fine.Despite I am a hated person, who ownes animals with balls I know how to care for them put in the time so we need to leave there balls to my choice. I do not force people to keep there animals balls but if we do not defend our personal right to our balls we will loose them.Rus
Hmmm, one that that seems to happen when this topic comes up is that people almost always talk about dogs.... cats rarely come up, but they are a bigger problem then dogs. I think for cats S&N should be considered even more since they can more easily get out, survive on their own, hard to catch, and less likely to be found and returned if lost. Not to mention a cat in heat or a spraying male can be hard to keep control of. What should be done still varies per person/cat, but I think it should be considered a bit more.QUOTE People have a nasty way of getting there way controling others because the control makes sence. Yea, and in the case of mandatory s&n laws, the "normal" person has no way of getting an intact permit, no courses, no extra fees, nothing. The only way they can keep an intact pet is if they meet specific guidelines (breeder, show/work dog), there is no option to learn how to take care of an intact pet... even if there were fees for courses/intact permit, I could handle that... but NO option at all? Come on...
I have one dog that is fixed.. and one that isnt.. and the one that isnt fixed seems to be alot more content with himself and active overall. i think its a good idea not to neuter but i dont think this is a good reason to tell someone if youre trying to be persuasive.
Thirteen and a half years that dashingly handsome arctic devil on my profile spent with me. Eight years of it was across the street fron a PETA member that worked for the Humane Society part time and for many of those years would spew her dogamatic(no pun intended) tirade about me not being a responsible pet owner because I didn't "fix" him(I didn't know he was broken) I said in thirteen and a half years he never reproduced a single pup(saddly I would have loved to have had a son of his). and how could this be irrisponsible on my part? Her response was how could I know he hadn't? Had he ever gotten out? I said yes. So how could I be sure? I explained that in all those years with the exception of when he stayed home in the house which was rare, he was never more that 100 feet away and never left my side(the loyalty of dogs is inmeasurable and I miss his singing). Now this is a person who claims "animals have rights" yet would gladly steal them to feel better about it. I wonder if these same people would feel the same if it were about humans. "Oh, I'm sorry your homeless you need to be sterilized". Or you commited a crime, were diabetic, looked funny, or what ever other criteria or excuse they want to come up with that would require you to be sterilized. I think their views would change rather quickly. Just as with ourselves.children and pets, we all decide what is best for them wheather you cut or not. For the kindest and most natural life of a pet ,my opinion and vote is for "intact".
its probably been said, but neutering your dog can cause them to grow abnormaly... and from what i have herd they tend to grow larger when neuterd young... not to mention the lack of certin hormones can cause shorter life span... on top of the other fact that your dog will never mature sometimes staying puppish for life... i really cant stand a 100 lb puppy... (thats just me)the shelter's only reason for pushin neutering is because... look at them... most of the animals they get are from unwanted breedings... it makes it an easy way to stop them from getting any unwanted breedings form dogs they release... but do what you want... this is america... land of the free...>.>...<.<....>.<...(lookes around for "big brother")
I know there's the supposed risk of increased cancers and such, but that is based on people having intact pets that never use their "parts". For a zoophile suck as myself, I would certainly be letting him use his "parts" a LOT. Just as in humans, masturbation or other forms of achieving orgasm and releasing pent up fluids from the sex glands is healthy. As for what you tell people when they ask: Tell them, "if I neuter him, he will loose the drive to f..k me or produce cum for me to drink." That should pretty much shut them up, or at least catch them WAY off guard.John
