here is a fun little new thread where you can share your favorite names...but moreso -why that particular name for that particular animal???I have always like the tradition "ruff n' tumble" names for male dogs -like Rover Bandit -and my favvvvv TOPPER I recently encountered a major stud rottweiler -and after I ask for permission to greet him I asked his name -and they said "snowball" -errr unless this dog is into major oral cum swapping -I have ZERO idea why it's name would be "snowball" - it was soooooooo inappropriate -or at least it seems that way to me...so... whats your fav names? do you already have a name choosen before you even know what animal it is? do you name an animal by it's traits and behavior so it seems appropriate for that particular animal?PLEASE SHARE!

I name my dogs after I have had them for a week or two by watching them and then naming them after people or pets that they remind me of.Norman was because he acted prissy and stretched his legs contantly like a norman i knew, Max because he walked around the house talking to himself in a low rumble like my uncle, Gracie for her habit of admiring herself in mirrors and stealing hats. so in a way they kind of named themselves

I usually name animals by a trait that they have or for the reason I bought them. For example my rat's name is Chad Gray because I used my Mudvayne ticket money to buy him so it was only right to name him after the lead singer of the band. For muscular animals I give them names that make you think big and tough like Buck, Gun, Ace, Rex, and names along those lines.

I don't have my dogs yet, but I plan on naming my female siberian husky Miraka, and my male Ling (or ling ling).I'll see if they fit, if not, they'll be changed. But I chose them because they sound awesome when you say them.

I refuse to give my dogs a normal or stereotypical name. I once had a homeless dog that started living at my house, and although he never really did get tame he was pretty cool. Before I had a proper name for him, my sister and her kids came for a visit, and as we drove in the driveway I asked the kids what to name the dog. My nephew, instantly and completely randomly since we were nowhere near any mountains, said "Mountainclimber". And so he became. My current dog was named Seargant when I got him, but that would never work, so I renamed him after a Canadian coworker that I'd told I would name my next dog after.Previous dog names have included Kosmo and Norton. Oh, and an iguana I had a long time ago. Captain ZXQ Weirdbeard. Really.

Well, as a Star Trek fan, I tend to name my pets after Star Trek characters (I know, a little nerdy ). Not too easy because not too many make good pet names

when i was a little younger... (before i met you guys)... i pretty much named my animals after their personality and what they looked like...i still have a cairn terrior that we got a while ago... he's my absolute favorite pet of all time... he's starting to get older now... but he's still sooo cute...when we got him... his original name was palmer... i thought... "who the hell would want to call this dog 'palmer'".... so we looked it over... he's maltese (brown, black, grey, mix of colors)... and he's always moving... someone said he was kind of peppy... so i'm like... that could work... and we named him pepper... and pepper has been with us for a while now and the name has stuck... its always fun when i hide the pepper in the kitchen.... and someone's like... wheres the pepper... and i'm like.... he's under your feet

i normally named my girls after i'd had them for awhile, and most of the time i try to give them a name that suits their personality. when i can't decide on a name i'll let them decide.

i "feel" a darling's name when i am introduced to them. the names always reflect their wonderful personalities. i tend to be drawn to extremely feminine names for females and very masculine names for males.

I like to name my pets unique names, and often I try to go with a theme, like the Star Trek fan posted earlier! If my animal doesn't already come with a name (Like my horse, Breeze; or my eldest dog, Fayla) I try to see if any unique name or idea fits them. Then I look in a book, magazine, or on a compiled list to pick a few finalists. Naming to me is a long and important process, it's something you're going to be saying over and over for many years, it's important not to make choices foolishly! My two pups at the moment are (kennel name excluded) Icestrike (aka Striker) and (kennel name excluded) Cry Of Thunder. They are both fitting names, Striker is a masculine, solidly built dog with an ice blue coat and a regal demeanor. Thunder is small, quick, agile, and vociferous! I feel that they are very fitting.I like to get my ideas from mythology, take a cue from the immediate parent's registered names, or refer to their color or personality. A mischevious clown would more likely get the name of Bojangles, Miss Demeanor, Tricksy, or Loki. A serious dog would get a name like Bruiser, Thor, Tank, Hammer, etc. Even if the "serious" dog is a Chihuaua or the "clown" is a Rottie!Have fun with it and be sure that you give your animal a name that reflects the care and dedication you have for them. I am always saddened by the puppy buyers asking their family, "What shall we call him?" And hearing them say "How about Jake?" Regards,Shamedgirl
