me, i have a nice lil' farm in a rural neihbor hood about 50 acres w/ a very nice tree line for privecy. so i have lots of room to frolick aand play w/ my animals in peace, unfortionitly i will be mooving shortly (meh im almost old enough to drink i cant live in my parents house forever(, but still for the time being im usualy home all alonr 24/7. so i have a great setup for our life style, evan though i do only have 1 horse and though i love her i would love to have a stud, and of course my yogy bear he's the best!! so i was just wondering what it was like for some of our fellow zoo's + beasties? i know we all come from differant life styles some witth huge farms and lots and lots of animals and some with only small apartments and sadly no pets at all (i feel ur pain), so what it like for you? -spamy

I've been stuck in big cities for most of my life. Oddly enough, I kinda like it. When I was younger we had a house in the middle of nowhere with about 10 acres of land. That was BORING....Gimme the fast lane everytime.

I have lived in the country, in suburbia, and in the city. My preferance for a zoo life style is the country fairly close ta the city. This allows you your privacy when you want it, and still have access the things in the city. Thus allowing you to take advantage of both life styles.

Well, I live 5 miles in on a seasonal road (not maintained) on 100 acres of land.It is about 40 acres hardwood forest and 60 acres cedar swamp. This acreageis surrounded by thousands of acres of mead owned and state owned land soI have the ultimate privacy setting. I share this place with 2 female k-9 companions, and lots of wildlife. I live in a camp which is now my home.I just had a phone line run out here about a month ago and Ive been loving itever since. The nearest village (pop. 300) is about 15 miles away. I spend all mytime back here and go to the nearest city (pop.15,000) about once a month. It is about 35 miles away. I dont even have plates on my car and do all my driving back here on the logging roads with my 2 girls.Never cared for the city much, so this is the place for me.p.s. mead owned land means large areas of forested land owned by mead paperinc. and is open to the public, and state owned land is also open to the public.

I'm renting a second house on my landlord's property about a mile outside of town. They have 3 acres here, a big barn, and 6 horses. I haven't done anything with the horses. I'm waiting until I get my own mare and she will be very special to me. I don't like the idea of messing with someone else's horse. My landlord said I could keep a horse here for free. I hope to get one within the next year. It's a nice place here. The house is big for just myself and it gets a little lonely living alone. Hopefully someday I can find a zoo friendly woman. The only bad thing about this place (besides having to pay rent) is my truck and car get covered with dust and cobwebs in about three days. Ah, the joy of country living.

I live in my own place in the big city with my mate: a purebred male GSD. And it's very private and quiet - just close the door heh. I've lived in the city most of my life, and I couldn't see myself living in the country/boonies/middle-of-nowhere.

I have a townhome with a fenced backyard. Just me and my two male dogs. a Mutt and a Lab. National Forest is only two miles away. We go play there almost everyday after work. Going to move to the family farm of 320 acres in OK in seven years. No one lives there, the land is least to a local rancher for grazing right now. When i move there, among other things I will get a sheep, name her Suzy, put a pink ribbon in her hair. Woof woof !

I live in the 'burbs'. Right where all the action, noise, disruption, and everything else the city has to offer. Not really my kind of living but you have to go where the job tells you to go.My dream place is to live out in the country where it is peaceful and quite with enough room to have horses (I like horses too) and my dogs. To be not too close to town, but not too far either. I live in Vancouver British Columbia and would much rather move and live a life in the Interior (Prince George area)Maybe when I win the lottery.....Until then, I have to be content with what I have.

Another apartment dweller here. Just a small two bedroom flat for 3 of us. Right now that's about all we can afford. I'm not complaining though - I know many other people in life are worse off than us. Grateful for what I have, but like everyone else, just waiting for Lotto 6/49 for ring my door I don't mind living here, but I think if I could I would want to move into either western Alberta or eastern BC - Give me the trees and mountains and fresh air .What I'm imagining is exactly like this old movie I remember seeing. It was about 3 idiot guys (not a rare breed ) going on a canoe trip. They eventually get lost in the woods and come across two women living in a tree house. That'd be me totally carefree and unshaven Huggles

I still live with my parents, somewhat on the country-side. But, sadly those tightly compacted neighborhoods where the house have no more than a yard between them and with about 500+ houses in them are growing out my way fairly quickly. Which is sad, the roads coming out here used to be beautiful wooded ones, now those places are bare with hundreds of houses being built on the land. Is such a shame to see it all going as quick as it is.

Right now, I spend most of my time in a cheap rental place with nothing but the basics (bed/living room, kitchen, bathroom, toilet). Sadly, I'm not allowed to have animals there, though I must admit I wouldn't have the time to take care of one at the moment anyway. I'm a student, so I don't have the money for a huge place of my own. Let's just hope the future doesn't bring economic disaster and I'll be able to buy something decent one day

(actually the barn is mine i bought it from my parents when they said they were going to demolish it) at my parents i have my 2 horses Cai (AQHA mare) and Ziggy (AQHA gelding). i get free board at work so when breeding season comes around and i am working they are with me there, and we go riding every afternoon. so i guess my living conditions are pretty laid back lol

My living conditions? Well, I currently live in housing provided by the riding club where I work. It is located in the Southwest region of Connecticut (usa) and it has been my "home" for about two years that I've worked there. They gave me a room on the second floor in the stable, so it's only a short walk downstairs to my aisle where the horses I take care of are boarded. The pay is good (when I include the "free" room) and it is a nice place to work, but since the club charges members over $2000.00 per month (US) to board a horse there (yea, you read it right two thousand dollars per month!), there is no way I'll be able to talk them into getting a stall for my Muffin mare when they can get that much for a paying customer. So I currently keep Muffin at a boarding stable north of the club which cost me $400.00 per month, full board. But that stable is 51 miles away from where I now live and work! That part has been hard to deal with at times and I really do miss taking care of my own mare every day like I have done the first 15 years we have been together. I do get two days off each week which I use to spend some "quality" time with her. But to tell you the truth, it has been VERY HARD on me the last two months because, well, since I found the BF here. Why? When I found this place and started reading the posts, it gave me a good in the ass to really think about how much Muffin has been a very big part of my life and how much I truly miss her! So I am now looking for a new job where I can have Muffin with me again....I should have done this a long time ago and in a way should also thank everyone here in getting me motivated in doing this.I also know Muffin is very happy and well cared for where she lives right now, with acres of turnouts and many horsie friends to be with. So if I do find another job, it will have to be something that would give my mare a nice place to live in as well. Right now I have a job and place to live and Muffin has a nice place as well, so if this does happen, it will have to be something really "special" where I know that both of us will be happy living in, not just for me.Anyway, thought I also show you my living conditions with some photos, so....

Just finished 20 years in the Forces, kept talking myself out of living out and getting a dog because I knew I could be deployed with little or no notice. With most of my friends being in the same unit I would have to surrender the dog (probably to be destroyed ) or at best dump it on someone while I missed a big chunk of it's life .Now I've packed it in I have 1/2 an acre in a small country town, 2 dogs, and my own income (not unemployment) I'm ready to start living! But is 2 enough?I may get itchy feet and move to an area where I can have more than 2 dogs but that won't be for at least a couple of years. It'd be nice to have enough land that I could let the girls bark when they play and not worry about the neighbours complaining
