Just for starters here are three images I have on the subject:-I had just let my girl in from her morning break. It's a weekend so my normal routine of getting ready to leave is broken, so I'm not in the kitchen where she expects me to be after she had a good long drink of water. Instead I've curled up underneath the blankets back in the bedroom, hearing her parade through the house I make a game of it, pulling the covers almost over my head so that I can only see part of the doorway. At this point, she's checked out the bedroom twice before, each time all I saw was a pair of perked ears, this time though she spots me and melts before my eyes. Her ears go back, out comes her canine smile and she she saunters up to and jumps on the bed, where, of course a major scritch fest occurs!-Another dog... I had not been back home in over a year. He and I had been inseperable when I was growing up but we had thought for his sake, he should stay home when I moved away. Now whenever I come home, the same ritual occurs. He sort of sideways walks towards me, wagging, and wriggling as only a golden can, and he makes these soft purr-like vocalizations while he's doing it. This continues for several minutes even when I bend down to greet him properly.-And another... We had known each other for all her life, again, inseperable. In our woodland trapsings we had come across a paticularly gorgeous spot in the woods. It was like a 60 foor diameter island in the middle of several beaver ponds. You couldnt see it from far away, but from within it, you could see everything else since the stand of pine trees had kept the encroaching brush clear. I remember scores of afternoons where, after she had had her fill of exploration that day, we lay there staring up at the blue sky or stars next to one another. For me, that was spiritual peace, seclusion and saftey rolled into one...TK

I would give a few instances. They just got up and want me to take them out for a walk:I sleep in the bedroom while the dogs in the next room specially designed for them. They search for me in the bedroom If I am not there then know I would either be in the bath or in the dining room reading newspaper. The male dane first lets out a bark or two just to let me know he is there. If I dont respond he comes and straches at the door. If I am still not responding he sits while the other 3 run downstairs to check me out if. They run straight to the dinning room, there I am reading the newspaper, the all there come and sit in front of me and let out a little moaning sounds, If I dont repond they come in a submissive posture and lick my toes. If I dont rise up they start playing with my paper seemingly saying that it is enough and they want to go out now. If I say no they start playing with each other if I even make the slighest move to stand up they come rushing at me trying to huyyr me up, hearing the commosion they dane comes down and greets me with his legs on my shoulders and a lick to my face then the runs towards the door and would stands near the door scratching it in a way to say he is ready. I put the leash on and take them out. I am returning from university:They hear the car sound are all are at the door even before I park the car, all start barking in excitement, If I take long they start scratching at door. This is about the only time even when they dis obey my mother no matter what she says they continue. When She opens the door out comes the 4 runnign towards the car, If I have am out of the car by the they jump on the bannet, put their legs up on the window and what not, they even try and open the window. They know not to scratch on the car so they restrain themselves from doing it but otherwise they do every other thing they know to get me out. The moment I am out I am like Fred Flinstone but I am put up with 4 dogs in great mood trying to get me in the same frame of mind. No matter how serious I might be their acts bring smile to my faceThey want to play:No matter where I am they seek me out, Say I am before the Tv, They purpusfully stand before it blocking my view, When I say out of the way they just leave just to return after a few seconds, sometimes they come right to the sofa and settle down right next to me and try to get me up, they lick, nibble runn here and there just to catch my attention. Once The male rotty even managed to pull the plug off the socket, Though It was funny I couldn'tt encourage it so I just gave him a harsh no and a few slashes on his face.I think these are there 3 of the most expressive moments on a regular day.

Not to turn it too much into story time... It depended on the individual, the species, the gender, and the relationship; at the very least. For instance, the two dogs we have now have always been individuals in the ways they sho affection, as well as showing affection diffently to other individuals, and in different situations. My wifes dog walks on his back legs (walking backwards, so he can still look at me) and dances when he sees me, whether just seeing me again from an hour ago, or 10 months ago. He will not let me pet him on the head, because he is too busy licking my hands and face, and trying to keep his balance. My dog when greeting me, jumps straight up in the air from all fours, until I'm close enough, and he stands very still, wanting me to pet him. If I'm not fast enough at giving pets, he reaches his head up for the pets. My wifes dog greats her like he greets me, but he does stop, sit, and let my wife pet him. My dog runs through tricks and dances for her. When they see my father, my wifes dog just follows him and licks his hands. My dog stands and barks repeatedly and play bows. They do more. Just to show they love me, my dog stretches out next to me on his back. My wifes dog breathes in my face, or licks my hands, face, feet or crotch. When he is confused as to whether he wants sex or pets, he sits on my face or humps my hand. My dog, to either me or my wife, when he is confused as to whether he wants sex or pets, always climbs on a shoulder or limb, but buries his head under that limb, and flops over. It is very individual.Others show affection in other ways. Goats and sheep would cry loudly with joy, and trot up to me, tails pointed straight up and wagging (might sound odd that sheep and goats wag their tails like that, but they do). They rub their heads on you; not mean, but hard. Especially rams and billy goats. Horses nicker, and sort of saunter on up like "Oh, you. Oh, I SUPPPOSE I can spare some time with you. Horses will tend to do a lot of breathing in my face. The younger they are, the more they do that, or if they are studs, they just simply do that coupled with lips playing with my neck and ears, and a little sort of nip at the hairy very top of my head. Must look like a mane to groom to them. One thing all of then seemed to do, some less then others, and there was no telling who would do what, any of them would follow me, all of them would put their lips on me, they all to one extent or another, even if only a quick brush under an arm, would rub their foreheads on me, and all of them would compete over my affection with any individual from any other species. Horses in particular threaten other horses, , goats, dogs, and even other people, especially strangers, if they are attached to me and the other individual is competing for my attention. Also, our stud brays loudly when he hears the stables owner or sees our car; and sometimes just when he sees us. He also brays to bid his companion fairwell and as a greeting. Otherwise, even at feeding, he is quiet. But if he thinks he is getting a breeding, he has the cutest little bray-knicker sort of thing he does to the mare. Donkey pick up line? Well, it's still showing appreciation at least.Since I'm here, one last one that works for people too. A horse I once owned gave birth on a blanket I was sleeping on. That seemed to me to be the strongest measure of comfort one could give to another individual. These are the same individuals that remain comfortable around me, my wife, or my father. For instance, my fathers dog used to sit in my fathers chair until someone came into the room, and then jump off of the chair. My dog, who is more comfortable with me, will just lay there on the bed, or floor, or on the lawn, when I walk in, wag his tail, look at me and grin. My wifes dog will do the sasme for her. My horse, a cold blood breed, will knicker and just keep laying there if either my wife or I enter his stall when he was napping, but no one else. My wifes horse; never seen her laying down. Our stud, still fairly new to us, is just now comfortable masturbating with my horse still chewing on his but, and with my wife and I, and the owner of the stables within about 50 feet. Any other horses, people, or dogs in line of site, or if we get close enough that my horse starts towards the fence or says anything, and he stops. My wife, when I enter ther room always smiles at me and says hello. She has not been so trusting of other members of my family entering even her living room uninvited, and I'm more scared she will bite strangers that come to the door then I am of the dogs biting. I think the comfort level is the true measure of how affectionate each pet really is to you.

QUOTE (Dog lover @ Nov 29 2011, 11:29 PM) I don't understand this thread, is he telling his experiences or making up a story?Does he want us to also tell a story or tell our experiences? I wondered the same thing. I just treated the thread as one asking for examples of affection we've experienced for comparison, to find a norm, or lack there of, so to speak. It does make one wonder if all the stories are honest, but hey; that's the internet. We do the best we can.

All my doggies love to cuddle with me and lick my face in that oh so cute way, when they have their ears rolled down and that innocent sparkle in their eyes.
