This is in responce to a topic I read 1-2 weeks ago where someone asked if Mares have the equivilant to a human female's hymen. This post is either so well hidden now or has been removed but either way, I can't find it.But It got me thinking and I have an answer, just in case that poster is watching.I am doing an equine course here and have just been given my Equine Body Systems exam paper and on a hand out that the paper has it has the answer. And please anyone who knows better feel free to correct me.The equivilant to a human Hymen in a maiden mare is called the "Vestibular seal"which is ruptured when she is first served by a stallion. If the diogram is correct, this seal or hymen, which ever you wish to call it, seems to be 4-6 inches inside the vigina. It isn't given a scaleI have seen this Vestibular seal when I have been playing about with my own maiden mare and have gently stroked it with my fingers which seemed to cause a lot of twitching on her part. Not that she showed signs of displeasure. I will repost this in the general forum as wellAll the best
I have seen this as well, though not really sure one would call this a hymen. Yet I do know exactly what you mean in the question.
I think all maiden females have this. ..I know that heifers have this hymen ....and some bleed a little when it is breached...by the bull[or by human penis]...it used to be called the maidenhead...
