hi everyone, i was wondering what like minded people would do in my shoes... i have a friend who was homeless for a wile, and recently moved into a completely destroyed house hold with lots of dogs... when i say destroyed i mean that most everyone has been either taken to jail/Juvy or taken by cps... their is a male husky wolf mix that i have been in love with for a wile, and sense things have started to fall apart their i have been sneeking over in the night to feed... i really want to steal this dog but i know that if it were my dog i would be destroyed... the people left have nothing left to support him but are unwilling to give him up. but the kicker is that i only feel the urge to steel one of the dogs, because im attracted to him, and its obvious they all need help... im not willing to call the shelter because they are good people in a bad situation... im just conflicted in general and would like to here opinonsp.s. sorry for terrible english

While they may be attached to their dogs they dont have the right to make an animal suffer through malnutrition or the liklihood of catching a disease through being kept somewhere not clean..its just not right excuse me for thinking the dogs welfare should be taken out of their hands.. Sorry

Uh let's not let this thread go unnoticed. If the dog is not beingabused then stealing the dog might not be a good idea. If the dog IS being treated horribly then get the authorities into the situation. Try not to do anything you will regret just because you have "feelings" for the dog.

Man that's a tough situation. I have to agree with what others are saying though. Involve the authorities if the animal is not being treated properly. This is nothing against those people going through a hard time. It is simply helping them correct a mistake they are making. Abuse can come in many forms, including not giving up a pet when you can not properly take care of it. Depriving it of needed things such as food or water, even if it is unintentional, is still abuse and should be stopped.I say if they can not provide for the animal and they refuse to let you take care of it, involve the authorities. Do not steal the dog, or you could be looking at legal trouble yourself. Do the right thing. Involve the authorities and explain that you'd be more than happy to take care of the dog.

To me it all depends on the matter of degree - is it that the dogs are being neglected, or that they're not being cared for to the standard YOU would like to see and would provide yourself? If it's the former, and the people responsible for them won't improve things or give the dogs up, then you have an obligation to the dogs to involve the authorities. If it's the latter, all you can really do is point out where you think they're failing the dogs - it's then up to them to agree or not.Stealing one dog just creates the possibility of you ending up in more trouble than anyone else, and if the authorities subsequently sieze all the dogs you won't be in a position to offer a home for the one you care about.Cheers and all the best with an un-enviable situation

Just buy the dog, if they are in that situation I think they will say yes to a money exchange. Still involve the authorities after you buy the dog

Many people struggle to realise they are causing harm to an animal they have under their care in these situations. Its simialr to what happens with the rescuers who turn into hoarders. They don't have the means to keep the support going but don't have the courage to admit that its not something they can cope with any more. But as has been said is he definitely being mistreated or is he just not being cared for how you would like to see. Why not tell the people there that unless they do something to improve the animals situation you will call the authorities. The fear of the control being taken from them might encourage them to get up and do something. If they really won't do anything then you are left with little choice but to call the authorities. Though maybe offering to buy the dog you like off them would be a help. You really have to make the call yourself as its hard for us here to really help without truly knowing the situation first hand. Just taking him though is really likely to cause more harm than good.

I'd offer a little money or some kind of trade but I absolutely would not steal him. If that doesn't work and you are concerned for the dog's welfare, contact the authorities.LTD
