If you have to ask a question like this, you REALLY need to do some serious research into animal husbandry, horse care, training and handling, to keep yourself and the pony safe and healthy-- Something you really should have done before you got one.Horses come in heat when the days are long and getting longer, every 21 to 28 days, for 5 days at a time, on average. "Your Results May Vary" They can come in heat year around, tho' many don't. Those that do will not be as vigorous about it as they are in spring and summer.
I agree ith Neandernitz. You've got a lot of studying to do. Larn all about horses before trying anything. after doing research in libraries and with other horse owners, check out the pinned topics at the top of the howtos forum.Good luck,LTD
Ditto what has been said above. Horses take a lot more skill to keep healthy than a dog.

I agree with the cautions here. I have lost horses that were healthy and happy just hours earlier and it is very traumatic. It is easy to founder a pony by feeding them too rich a diet. Anyhow, to your question: As Neandernitz says mares do cycle about every 28 days but the intensity varies with season and stimulation. Some mares will not show heat unless there are other horses (especially stallions) around. The cycles are still there, but you have to test for them. The length and intensity of their heats is also variable. I have one mare that gets really horny in the spring. So I put 3 human spermicide suppositories into her and let her have her way with the stallion. This brings her into a super heat which can last a week or more because she does not "settle". That often causes the next cycle to come much sooner.About this time in the northern hemisphere the heat cycles will begin to become less intense, but they will continue through most of the summer. The mares want their foals to drop in warm weather (11 months from conception) so they will be strong going into winter.
