I don't know if he was a zoo. It's hard to say for sure, but what is obvious is the level of passion he had for his work.

I think he may have been a voreaphile. For those who don't know, a voreaphile is someone who enjoys the idea of being devoured. He had said on many occasions he would be "honored if he ever became bear food" or something close to that. I'm not saying that he had himself devoured on purpose (his girlfriend was killed too remember) I just think he took the chances he did because he was truly unafraid of what the bears might do to him. And I believe he thought he had a deep kinship with the bears and I don't doubt that either. But I don't think he was a zoophile in a sexual sense. A very good chance he was in a spiritual sense though. His work was fantastic. He brought home to us some fantastic video and photos that had never been seen before. It's very cliche', but he died doing what he loved...and very few of us will have that kind of opportunity. The tragedy here is that his girlfriend paid the same price for taking the risks he did (as well as the bear who devoured them). I don't think she or the bear signed up for that and that's the shame of it.
