I wanted to keep a little journal type thing about my puppy here! I found him from someone who said he was going to be put down, poor thing! I immediately went after him and here we are! His name is Bailey, he is a 2 month old Daschund/Lab mix. How the two mixed I have no idea... haha..Currently he's deworming, so he hacks from the medicine and it's sad I have to take him to the vet for shots anyway so hopefully they will have some advice on what I should do! He poops like 6 times a day and it is RANCID because of the deworming, and pees twice that! Haha.I shall post my journey with him here, feel free to leave advice! I sure could use it.Here are some piccies!

How fun to have a new puppy. It will be interesting to see how that mix grows up. He looks super cute right now.I'm sure you two will be very happy together. I hope he gets and stays healthy.
Aww he's a little cutie. Hope hes fine after the deworming.
He's currently crate training, right now he's barking and howling and whining in his cage so it's sad to hear Went to the vet today- got some stuff for dewormer, he should be just fine. His arse is quite defined, it's kind of funny. And the vet asked if I was going to neuter him- I said "I'll look into it" in person.. but in my head I was like "no way"!!!!!!! Haha.
What a lovely puppy . I'm sure he'll bring you hours of amusement and joy.As you said you would welcome advice, I'm throwing a few things at you that spring to mind:Once he's had his shots consider some professional basic obedience training, well worth the money and a good opportunity for him to start getting socialised and used to other people and other dogs. They do need and benefit from being socialised before they come out of the puppy stage or they can grow up shy and fearful of strangers.Labs / Lab crosses are notorious for chewing (I can testify to that ).... a few sturdy toys like a Kong and a rope toy etc will hopefully give him something else to chew. Try and make the place as "puppy proof" as possible and don't leave anything lying around that he can get at that you don't want chewed to pieces. In relation to the crate training, it's very effective if done properly but takes time and patience. A slow start is best ...... placing his food outside the crate at the entrance; then put it inside (leave the door open); then close the door while he's eating but stay in sight and let him back out again; gradually build up the time he's left alone in it from 5 mins; 15 mins etc. Don't forget not only does he not know what's going on in terms of where the rest of the pack went ...... and why he's in unfamiliar surroundings ..... but they can't physically hold their bladders too long at that age and will not soil their beds. By using food this way or treats ..... he doesn't have negative assocaitions with you leaving him ....... and by building up from short periods ..... he gets to understand that you will be back. Worked well with my dog .Be firm ...... if you surrender to the "puppy dog eyes" you're setting standards of behaviour that you may not want when the dog is older but become nearly impossible to eradicate as the pattern is set ...... for example, my Dad fed his last dog treats from the table ..... we never ate a meal in peace again for 15 years. Another example ..... he gave in to howling at night time and brought her upstairs .... she never slept anywhere but his bed for the rest of her life (and no, not in THAT way) lol. Start as you mean to go on and you'll have a happy healthy, well behaved dog who knows his place and the boundaries Hope that helps
Bailey is a really fast learner- four days of crate training and he's doing just fine. He whined a lot at first but now he's a charm. He mostly poops outside now, knowing that poop=outside. I'm really good about being firm and training- I'm the only one who actually trained the two dogs my parents have. They know sit, shake, stay, go on, etc because of me Question. I was talking to someone about him, and they said that I should have him start licking me now, so he knows I like being licked there (crotch and ass) for the future, and so he knows how to react. Is he still too young for this? Part of me thinks so, but I don't know anything so yeah that's why I'm asking!
at 2 months old yes Id say too young but thats only me
So what would be a good age to start the licking training?
You are a wonderful person and he will consider you his best friend for ever!!!!!!! Keep up the good work keep us posted !!!!!! My prayers are with you!!

Thanks , Nice first post
He is doing really well puppy wise. Still biting more than I'd like, so we have to control that somehow! Haha. He is starting to lick.. my hands that is.. so progress? Hehe
I've been lazy when it comes to pics, but my puppy has gone to about 10 lb now. He's getting used to the apartment I moved to, but is a little over hyper. We're dealing with that haha. He likes to chew on everything, including carpet- I hit him on the nose and say "no!" to deal with it. Any other advice?Oh yeah, he knows sit!
cutie pie
