If you breed dogs you should know that 12 months is WAY TOO YOUNG to start breeding a female. You should at least wait till 2 years of age so you can get all the proper tests done, to make sure your dogs are of quality breeding and will not pass down any genetic disorders.

Hot story. But was/is not necessary to let them suckle at 6 weeks. At that age they should start to be weened. But it won't hurt them to let them suckle off of you if you enjoy it. Who knows, it has been observed that regular suckling can sometimes induce lactation to start.
