This is probably just me overthinking or being silly, but have any of you seen I Am Legend (new movie with Will Smith) and wondered if there was a bit more to the main character's relationship with his female GSD Samantha? I guess you'd have to actually see the movie to think so or understand why I'm wondering.. and I don't want to give any more details as it might spoil the movie x.x but I will say, he was alone for 3 years with only her, no other humans for him to associate with.. and his relationship with Sam seemed to definitely surpass that of the usual household pet type relationship. But I guess it could also be wishful thinking. Maybe someone will write some fanfiction..
i just got back from seeing that movie i think him being alone for three years like that he most likely did do it with her
lol when I saw that comercial i was jokingly thinking the same thing
hmm cant wai tto se it)))i,ll form my own opeion later)
Go see it! It's really a very good movie.. sad though, there are more than a few tearjerker moments
ima go see it tommorow probly, ill post what i thought
im going to see it today i always wanted to just cause it had a german shepherd in it i hope its a damn good movie as well
Yes, that's a good theory. Maybe they had another kind of relationsship too
Interesting thought about " I Am Legend " , anybody else know of mainstream movies or plays with a beastiality under tone? I've been curious about that play Equus with Daniel Radcliffe. Can't forget Howard the Duck. Yes it wasn't that good but it had some fowl scenes
i think i'm gonna go see it agian what an awsome movie
When you are the only one left alive, might as well develope a deeper relationship with your dog. Lol.

Hmm I've been curious about Equus too!
Judging by the trailers it gave me that thought too, but I assumed it was just me looking at it out of context. I wonder, though, has anyone read the source material?

Saw it and loved it!I was thinking of that, but that's just my zoo mind talking. Really, I saw Samantha as his last companion and only family he had, not really with zoo undertones.
Hmmm haven't seen the movie yet. But will most likely do so. Since I am a fan of zombie flesh eaters, and this particular Richard Matheson story is what spawned the modern zombie genre. With regard to a zoo element with the main characters dog, I wouldn't be so sure. BUT! If that is the case then does this imply that other "sole survivor" movies have those same undercurrents? Did Tom Hank use his hand more than once on Spawlding the volleyball in Castaway?
I don't think they tried to imply anything with "tones" or whatever in the movie... he was stuck with his dog because it didn't have the disease but every human died from it. He was actually alone for 2 years... 1 year for the virus to spread and kill people before being by himself. (That doesn't ruin any story by the way, because the movie starts with telling you how things started, then says "3 years later" when it cuts back to Will Smith.)If someone was alone for however long, they would get closer to their dog in the emotional sense. Now if one of us was stuck alone with a dog... i'm not sure we'd look at is the end of the world lol
Lol, I was totally thinking about that in the movie... I can't remember which specific scenes, but a couple where he was talking to her made me think about it... but I doubt it was intentional, most likely just trying to show how close of a relationship they have. If you are debating seeing it, I would recommend it, the start kinda drags a bit, and I wish the ending went a different way... but overall a good flick, especially if you like animals and zombies

Well without making a spoiler post. Has anyone besides me seen the identically named Vincent Price version that was done back in the early 60s? Extremely underated I think it was one of Price's better movies. Does the Will Smith version end the same way as the Vincent Price version?
In the trailer, who knows, you can never 100% rule it out because using sex to sell is a cornerstone of marketing. In the actual movie, no. This character is so disciplined he doesn't allow himself to watch porno DVDs, and he wants to. He's cowering in the bathtub with his dog because it's a situation of sanity-challenging terror. BTW I thought the dog's actions were very realistic for a good, well-trained but naturally excitable dog, with no sort of fantastic Lassie stunts.
You might be a zoo if you classify the dog in this movie as on of the top 10 hottest actors
*can see it now*"and the emmy award for 'best female actress' goes to Saman-...tha?" O.o?
first off I Am Legend is a really good movie and if you havent seen it yet you should go see it but as for the "undertone" of the movie i dont think that was the case at all there relationship is that of a man and his best friend and the only family that he has left. i think thats one of the draw back of being into zoo or the scene we all play with the though of the othere side of the relationship between a person and there pet...
QUOTE (badgerbadger @ Dec 16 2007, 08:57 PM) Hmm I've been curious about Equus too! Be forewarned, Equus is a tragic psychological story. Cow_Poke
I honestly wondered the same thing.it seems that after three years along...he'd get a little tired of masturbating
I downloaded a copy from somewhere on the net over the weekend. This is an A+++ movie. It gets a 10/10 rating from me. As far as any undertones, I didn't feel them. That's not to say I wouldn't be getting a little close with her if I was alone for 3 years.

I didn't detect any sexual undertones to the movie.. I just saw it as a man who is emotionally close to his dog. There is one part where Samantha is encouraging him to ask someone out; so why would he if he was zoo and "with" her? I was also really surprised that no one has laid on the warning about this movie. There is loads of animal violence in this movie. I'm a really sensitive person and spent most of the movie and night crying and sniffling about it. It would've been a great movie if it didn't have all of that.

I want to see 'I am Legend"I am glad someone mentioned that this is a remakeI do recall the Vincent Price version but might have to resee it in order to make a comparisonFacts from the Vincent Price verison was that the original dog used at the start of filming had to be put down for it's disturbing sexual actions...As I recall my Uncle saying "The damned dog had a ruttin problem and the coffee girl wasn't likin his attentions."
Still ain't seen it but when I first saw the trailer, I did think about what could possibly be going on, however, I don't think there will be any references to more than a master pet relationship between to to.Though if I was alone with a great looking pooch like that, .........
badgerbadger,Great thought but unfortunately the world is not ready for that like we would be.Great idea and a ten for the post.
Great question! I think someone mentioned castaway... and I have to agree. I think part of his relationship was because the dog was his only companion for sooo long (like wilson in castaway). And another part of the relationship is that it was the last connection he had with his daughter... who asked him to take care of the dog.I liked the movie but really thought it could have had much more depth. There were so many things they could have explored to make it fascinating... Like the zombies caring for each other, and learning. But they never went that extra mile. And it was pretty short. For such an expensive blockbuster they should have dropped a couple million more to push it to the 2hour mark, and then taken the extra half hour to explore the characters more. Okay.. shutting up now Thanks for the interesting thread!
