Hi all. I have stirred some of you by my previous topic about female superiority. Sorry about that, but I did hope the get a broad answer on that, and I did.....KnotyBusiness mentioned in his reply that Hyenas are Hermaphrodies, and that struck me. So I had to make research on thatone. I did not search in Google as someone sugested here becouse I'm member in www.YouTube.com So I punched the word, Hyena, and I had several results. I'm challenging enyone here who is feeling offended to do the same and see what is happening out there in the natural animal kingdom. See it on videos,, many of them,, lionesses and hyenas, bufalos, zebras, warthogs ect. Now please ! pay attention ! I WILL DESCRIBE WHAT I SAW, BUT IF YOU ARE A SOFT HEARTED PERSON DO NOT READ THIS. Go and forget about it. We are all animal lovers right ? The scince has copied the Radar of the Bats, the cross section of the wing so that the jet jumbos are more effective. We know that some insects are organized and have a Queen, workers and soldiers. So do we. But what about some cruel hunting practices? Here is what I saw in the first video, how a single Hyena brought down a wild beast male. Wild beast is the size of a bufalo but a bit lighter in body weight. A single hyena grabbed his testicles, and would not let go. No matter how the bull jumped, the Hyena jush hang on the testicles. Than finaly the testcles were separated from the male beast and the Hyena was devouring them greedily.Than the Hyena returned imediately to get more, Some skinn was still hangingwhere the testicles were torn of. So the Hyena managed to grabb that skinn and The bull jumped again, until the skinn was torn of again. Now that skinn was holding the penis of the bull, now the penis was hangind down fully exposed and unprotected. Again the hyene was devouring the skinn in few seconds and returned for more. The bull was trying to face the hyena all the times, but the Hyena managed to grabb the naked penis. She did not grabb it at the tip, but right at the base, and again the bull was jumping in agony, but the hyena would not let go. Than finaly she got the bull down. One single hyena versus such huge beast just becouse his weak spot,, the genitalia. Than after the first video, there are offering few differend animals hunting practices. All, or most are female hunters like hyenas or lionesses hunting male animals, and both beasts hyena and lioness having same principals , hunting males , and getting them by theyr testicles. Here is what I saw about 3 lionesses taking a wild pig or warthog. Thisone I realy can not understand, and I'm asking for help. Please someone explain it to me why was a lioness licking the warthogs penis, from the bottum of the shaft right to the tip ehyle other lioness was holding the hog by the trouth. Yes she was licking the shaft or the penis several times as the hog was squeeling and allife. Did the hog have some discharge as the lioness was eating his testicles before? I'm buffled ! I mean it realy looks paradox, becouse one lioness was holding the hog by the trouth, and the other lioness layed down next to the hog,, turned him on his back with her paw, and than like lowishly started chewing on his balls. I would much appresiate if someone would look at the videos and make a comment on that. I must say that some videos are edited, And the genital consuming lionesses, chewing on zebras testicles and penises, are edited out. Ok I hope that I did not create a controversy again. I hope that someone will explain it better that I did, cheers.zennie
You should post links, because I can't seem to find these videos. The whole thing seems a bit odd though...
She can't post links until 100 posts. I enjoy watching and learning about lions and their behavior, so I watch alot of youtube and myspace vids on the subject. I think what is happening here is that since youtube and other video outlets have opened up, it's given opportunity for people to share their safari vids and also for some of the professional videogragphers to post some of their stuff. These videos are NOT censored or edited like the "disneyfied" vids you see from Nat'l Geographic or Animal Planet. What you get is predation clear and simple. No super slo-mo, no dramatic music, and.....no editing of "offensive" material. The subject zennie refers to is popping up on other, non-zoo related boards as well. That is, lions and hyenas and their propensity for gobbling up the genitals of their still living prey. It isn't exactly what you were taught in school about lions now is it? Anyway, here are a few links if anyone is interested. Please don't watch any of these if it upsets you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51pNHyBSFoIhttp://www.wildcast.net/ (just search any of his vids with lions....he's a great filmaker)http://vidsearch.myspace.com/index.cfm?fus...&videoid=372280http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5OweMjFrIs

OOOOOOOOh equineslurp, thank you very, very much. But I have forgoten to state that the video I was describing was to be found by typing the words,,solo hyena kills wildbeast,, in the address bar at the ,,www.youtube.com..From there they will give you options to see more.......

Nothing unusual. the concentration of veins and arterial transfers in the genital region, combined with the general lack of defenses, make it a great place to attack. one or two mildly risky attacks, and your prey bleeds out in 10 minutes or so. with declining prides and pack sizes, it makes sense that you'd see it more often.

That all makes very good sense. The predators are just being effecient I suppose. But as a guy when you see the testicles being ravaged like that it's like And as Zennie says in her posts, lions espescially seem to delight in attacking that portion of the anatomy.....maybe they just taste good....who knows?
well its just for the purpose of efficiency. When you're chasing an animal from behind, issues about exsanguination aside, they are easy to see and grab. And when starting to devour, they are very proteinaceous and easy to get to. Typically what gets eaten furst at succulent organs like the testes. Muscle meat comes second ets.

i tend to agree with everyone else. Somehow i think it's just going for the dangly bits and not an outcry by the female animal populous against the dominance of the male species.my two cents

I tend to agree, especially after watching some of the videos, it just looks like they are going for the easiest thing to grab onto... If they always went for the ears I wouldn't suspect they didn't want the pray to hear them eat it, I would come to the same conclusion as above. But its an interesting theory, and one thing I did like learning was that it has been censored by other mediums - I mean I understand their reasoning, but its still interesting.
Now that was different, I guess that in the wild they don't seem to think about what they are grabbing, only that it is easy to eat and don't taste to bad....Moral of the story, don't get eaten by a pack of lions while in the nude.....
Ausdog, please, you forget what kind of board you are on! I don't doubt that some members here would thoroughly enjoy, and may even fantasize about being eaten by a pride of female lionesses while totally nude!
Intresting, but odd. In the wild they don't seem to be afraid of grabbing each other in private places

Hey guys, don't start argumants. Consider this and ask youself,, are we all not a bit of canibals so some extend? most of us had oral sex and most of us did swallow partners juices of love. SO ?

zennie,You misunderstand....we're just joking about, it's all good
Oooooooops......
I think there's little to no sexual or lust meaning in it, the predator is just finding one of the most effective ways to pull down the prey.
Humans eat the testicles of animals too, including bulls and pigs. It's never pretty. I just wish they would kill the animal first. It would make it easier to watch, espescially without the pained screaming and bleats.

On the level, I seriously doubt that a lioness licking and nibbiling at a pigs scrotum or a zebras sheath is out of lust. But from a human stand point it _looks_ erotic and it _looks_ lustful Well, at least until she rips it off and swallows the whole package in one gulp I think about lions and how they have had their face buried in all those zebra intimate parts, and I come to the conclusion that lions have it _good_

It is said that when monkeys fight, and this is fighting over some conflict, not predation for food, they also go straight for the testicles. Some humans have been attacked and maimed this way. The same principle must apply, that it's just an instinctively known weak spot. Same goes for boys fighting in the schoolyard...
That means, the lioness uses her best way to pull down her prey, but the human thinks more than the lioness. Nature is justing doing her way.
Oh wow. These vids actually excited me. I would love to have my nuts chewed off like that. I'm quite certain the pain would be very brief if you felt anything at all. The body has a wonderfull way of turning off pain if the damage is too severe or sudden.I guess i'm just wierd. ;-)
Hehehehehe. SQUIRT_GUY_VAN Yes I think that you are wired. But aren't we all? I mean, to have sex with animal is not srtight,or is it?
I was reading up on lions yesterday and I picked up a book I haven't looked at in ages. "Born Free" by Joy Adamson is one I am sure everyone is familiar with. And what do you know? Even in this innocent tale there is a scene in which Elsa the lioness attacks a buffalo and goes for his testicles....Page 188..."Elsa must have disturbed the buffalo- an old bull past his prime as we discovered-while he was resting close to the water, and chased him toward the river. Then in his attempt to cross he must have fallen on the slippery rock of the rapids, and Elsa had taken advantage of his predicament, jumped on him, and held his head under water until he was too exhausted to get up. After this she had attacked him at his most vulneralble spot, between the hind legs, and was doing so when we arrived". (I am sure Joy Adamson was too much of a lady to say "she was eating his balls when we came upon the scene" hehe)What is amazing about this is, as you know, Elsa was raised by humans and had no training in the wild as to how to deal with prey. How would she know to attack the buffalo there? Why not his back or his throat, both of which are just as vulnerable if not more so. In fact, the testicles are not _that_ vulnerable. She would have to deal with his two flailing and very powerful hind legs to get to that area. Lions learn thru the experience of their mother as to how to hunt and feed so that would explain a wild lion doing this. A lion such as Elsa doing it kinda puts a different spin on it don't you think? Squirt Guy Van....your not weird Google "hard vore" and you'll find plenty of others with very similiar fantasies.
EQUINESLURP. That is very intersting about Else the lioness, It seem to me that most animals have the inborn instinct, or the genes to do exactly as theyr parents did. Just like the birds, they know howto build a nest exactly the same way as theyr parents.. Ok guys let me comment about wired and normal, the way I see it. As I was a young girl about 10 or 12, the young boys started wearing long hair. At least in our villiage, but in the big citys they did id earlyer. I remember the comments of my parents and grandparents, they called them, hippys, junkies, nohopers ect, just becouse they were in the minority. But few yers later in my senior highschool, the clean shaved and high haircut persons in my class , was only the teatcher. So he was the wired person in our eyes becouse he was the minority. And to this day, if a young mal walks into a disco, and he is clean shaved and short haircut , that he is looked at as a freak. cheers
I have a bit of background in zoology, and whoever mentioned the fact that the genitals are an easy, soft target, that is also so filled with veins and arteries that its nearly as affective as taking prey down by the throat. Its also very true that sexual organs are incredibly nutritious and along with internal organs such as the liver and heart are often the first things on the menu for many predatory animals. Itd be interesting if you could find out if it was the dominant animal in the hunting party getting the first shot at the soft bits..

QUOTE (Knotinmymouth @ Dec 20 2007, 06:05 AM) Itd be interesting if you could find out if it was the dominant animal in the hunting party getting the first shot at the soft bits.. In fact I have several books on predation (the best two by far are "Serengeti Lion" by George Shaller and "Spotted Hyena" by Hans Kruuk. They both mention the genitals as a favorite target and also to confirm your suspicion, in the case of hyenas the dominant female is almost always the first to feed. Here's a summary of what I read..Regarding Hyenas, as stated before are very much female dominated (the females are almost 1/3 larger than the males) and the author Hans Kruuk mentioned that the matriarch is usuually the first to feed. Since the genitals are usually the first target when hyenas hunt, it stands to reason she is the one who's gonna munch them. Watch a _single_ hyena hunt and you'll see it's amazing how persistent she is in getting to the testicles. I say "she" because my understanding is the females are the only ones who occasionally go on single hunts for large prey. Males will do it too but only for calfs and newborn and such. If it's a group of Hyenas hunting, they all bite at the prey between the hind legs. When the animal falls, if he still has his bits left, the matriarch is gonna be the biggest most aggressive hyena and she's the one that will get the "prize" and get to eat the testicles, penis, and scrotum. With lionesses, (If the male isn't there commandeering the whole carcass) it seems to be based on individual preference if the whole pride of females is there. Some lionesses like to attack prey at the head once he is down, and seem to delight in eating the eyes, ears, and tongue (that's another bit of film you won't see in the disneyfied world of Nat'l Geo or Discovery, animal planet etc) while others will go to the anus and work their way inside from there, and as you've seen in the videos, some seem to specialize in Zennie's favorite target right between the legs (Kidding zenne! ). If only two lions are on the prey animal, usually one will hold him down by the throat and the other goes for the balls just as in the warthog video shown here. Dominance of individuals doesn't seem to play as much of a part with lions as it does hyenas regarding who gets the balls. It seems with lions it's more a personal preference than anything else. Finally, with other cats such as tigers, cheetah, and leopard they don't go for the testicles until much later in the feeding sequence. All three species of cat tend to start by eating the thigh meat from the back of the animal and work their way forward. Eating the testicles and the internal organs doesn't seem to be as much a priority. This might be because these cats aren't social. They generally hunt and feed alone, so there isn't much competion. In other words, they can get to the goodies "at their leisure" as David Attonborough loves to say
I've a question, is the predatory referred to necessary female? In some group-hunting animal like wolves, the alpha can be male sometimes. Will a male animal go for the nuts when hunting? And yes I'm
QUOTE (VulpesVulpes @ Dec 22 2007, 01:36 PM) I've a question, is the predatory referred to necessary female? In some group-hunting animal like wolves, the alpha can be male sometimes. Will a male animal go for the nuts when hunting? And yes I'm Sure! You mentioned wolves and the alpha pair are very likely to be the ones to get the "prize". In the case of lions or hyenas, it's usually a female, but there are some group hunting predators where the male might get the balls. Wolves, African wild hunting dogs, and dholes from India to name a few. Wild dogs are also very specific in going for the soft bits, here is a link to a male dog on a male impala eating his nuts....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oY9ESFeOf4UInterestingly, these predators (which are male dominated) are not doing very well population wise, and are endangered species, while lions and hyena (in which the [SPAM] are female based) are doing quite well. I'll leave it to others to draw any conclusions from that point.

I'll leave it to others to draw any conclusions from that point. Forgive my ignorance, but is African wild dog an endangered species? I think they're harder to get endangered than larger predators like lions and cheetahs. And male predators really attack the balls of the prey! So except for that they're "hard core SM "(which is impossible), you can only assume it's a stratagy for hunting.
Unfortunately, wild dogs are very, very endangered. Many factors are causing this. Rabies, Canine distemper and human interferance and encroachment. The disease's are coming from domestic dogs for the most part, and even if the dogs are within park boundries, the dieseses catch up to them. Also, any time the dogs get near people, they are immediatly killed off by the use of poison baits.
Zennie, If you don't believe how sweet males nuts are, you're welcome to take a nibble of mine... but gentle please..
My 2 bits worth. Firstly, hyhena are not hermaphrodites. The females have lots of testosterone to enable them to survive in a tough world. This means that they have male genetalia, but these are not functional. They are basically pseudo genetalia - they look like the real thing but are not. A hermaphrodite is self-fertilizing. A hyhena is not. There is a lot of new science being done on these animals that dispel these old myths (just as it was thought that crocodiles eat their young when they actually transport them to safety in their mouths).Secondly, the issue of the lionesses. I have grown up in Africa and spent many years in the bush. I have seen many kills. There are basic laws of nature at work in all. Bottom line is that the attacker will always limit their personal risk and maximize their potential gain. The animal being attacked will invariably be sick or old. These are singled out of the herd and brought down. In almost all cases they are brought down with a bite to the throat, blocking off the flow of air into the lungs. To do anything else endangers the attacking animal. Remember, in Africa, if you are not 100% healthy you are hyhena food...... This includes lions. They cannot afford to be injured by horns or flailing hooves. Injury means death on the African savannah. Now about the nuts stuff. The predator has a problem when they bring down the prey. They are tired and immediately at the mercy of scavengers - hyhena for example. So they eat fast and go for the softest flesh. This is often the rump or the thigh. I have never seen them ever go for the genitals. This from a bushman with a few years of direct experience.....Enjoy.Quizzie
Quizzie I have no doubt about your knowledge about african bush. But I strongly recomand that you should see that video clip on Youtube, by requesting the file,,,,,solo hyena kills wildbeast,, My description is very accurate and the single female hyena is bringing down the wildbeast exlusivly by his testicles , and the hanging exposed penis after the protective pouch was already eaten whyle the beast is still trying to fight the hyena of, cheers zennie

This from a bushman with a few years of direct experience.....Enjoy.Quizzie You need to do some more observation my friend When you say things such as "the animal being attacked will invariably be sick or old", it shows your limited knowledge of the subject. Lions and Hyenas are opportunists. If an animal in it's prime fails to notice them, or in a chase falls due to rough terrain, he is going to become prey to the animal attacking it. Lions and Hyenas don't care a bit if they are eating a bull in his prime or a bull that has three legs....it just doesn't matter. The facts do not bear out the "old and sick" theory...as nice and tidy as it sounds. Yes, lions do grab the throat on some prey species, no one disputes that. But generally there is more than one lion involved in a hunt. While one lion holds the animal down by the throat, the others are grabbing hold and in most instances the genitals are a favorite target.....look at the videos! In the case of buffalo a throat hold is rarely used until _after_ the animal is down. They bring such a big animal down with shear weight and sometimes bites to the hocks and the base of the tail. If watching the videos doesn't convince you that the genitals are often a target, if you don't believe your own eyes when seeing these video's, there is a wealth of first hand descriptions by naturalists such as George Schaller, Hans Kruuk, Kim Wolhuter, and Joy Adamson among others. Do they _always_ do this? Definately not. In fact, if one were to ever use the words "always" or "never" or "invariably" in a description of natural behavior, I can guarantee they will _always_ be wrong. There is an exception to every rule in nature. I'll have to re-read the thread, but I don't recall anyone in _this_ thread indicating that hyenas are hermaphrodites. They have a pseudo penis and it functions the way it is supposed to function. It is a social tool the females use in bonding ceremonies in which two animals stand nose to tail and lick one anothers "penis". It even erects as a male penis does, and they apparently find it very pleasurable (because they will perform this ceremony alot and often for 45 minutes or more). The psuedo penis _function_ is to be used as a way for hyenas to remain as a cohesive, cooperating hunting unit. But no, they can't self impregnate and I don't think anyone said as much. Enjoy
